WHAT IS MERCHANT NAVY?

The Merchant Navy is the collective term for commercial shipping and incudes a variety of vessels from cruise ships to tankers and cargo ships of all description. Merchant navy is the backbone of International trade; Export and Import all over the world are carried through the Merchant navy. Merchant Navy Ships carry goods through out worldwide. Merchant Navy has bright future with excellent salary. It mainly deals with the transporting Cargo, Crude oil, Container and Cruise liners (Passenger Ship).

Departments in Merchant Navy

Deck Department

The Deck department is an organizational and navigational unit aboard Merchant ships. An officer serving in the Deck department is called a Deck Officer. The main function of this department is the full watch keeping and complete Maintenance of the ship’s safety appliances.

Engine Department

The main purpose of the Engine department is to ensure the smooth functioning of the technical part of the ship. Ship Engineers operate & maintain the propulsion and all the other systems aboard the Ship. They also deal with Lighting, AC’s and the water systems.

Catering Department

This is the department that performs living and catering services for the Crew. Chief Steward directs, instructs, assigns person performing all the functions such as preparing & serving Meals, Baking and Planning menus. This Department is also responsible for Cleaning of the Kitchen area.
